I studied with 'Miss Rowe' during the 1970's and 1980's. Going to her piano school was an experience never to be forgotten - on opening the front door the sound of several pianos being pounded at the same time would hit me as I sat in the hall by the grandfather clock waiting for the moment when I might timidly poke my head around the door of Miss Rowe's room. She had boundless energy, enthusiasm and interest in each pupil. When we had an exam she would call in anybody who happened to be passing and make us play in front of them - I have a memory of playing my scales in front of a butcher in blood-stained apron. Miss Rowe had a cat called 'Treble' who would sit under the piano stool.Miss Rowe also loved mint imperials and would offer them to pupils, and she loved Wimbledon and often spent any spare moment glued to a small set in the front room. I still teach piano today and I was very sorry to hear that Miss Rowe has died.I really hope that the piano school will continue where it is. x

Eileen Rowe was a clever pianoforte teacher who I have known over 70 years. My daughter passed her higher grades with her. I shall always remember her 80th birthday concert at the Wigmore Hall. She loved her little cat called 'TREBLE'. A remarkable lady never to be forgotten.

Eileen Rowe, who died this month (EG Fri June 13th p8),was my piano teacher in the 1950s and 1960s. She was not only a formidable teacher but she also stretched me to my limits and beyond (for I was deaf and still am). It gave me and her great pleasure to win at festivals and play in concerts and exams whilst a youngster and I later built my teaching career around the fact that I had been taught to play the piano correctly and properly from the age of 5 and would willingly keep up a level that would suffice in any school. Eileen Rowe really mapped out my life for me pushing the positives to the fore so that I could give enjoyment to others who listened to me play.

YES! I too have heard the loud bangs going off! sounded more like explosions - what are they? I can only think that they are the profesional type fireworks being set off from somebody's back garden illegally as they are far too loud and late for a professional display. I worry about the harm to the wildlife and pets as well as disturbing our peaceful neighbourhood.
Along with numerous other motorists and pedestrians I was amazed that the LBE mobile CCTV unit on Greenford Road, Greenford on Tuesday afternoon was parked on a yellow line. When I approached the Council they refused to respond. I thought it was the socialists who believed in do as I say, not as I do!
I in wheelchair I did allot of volunteering work then I spent about 6 years trying for paid work but no one interested.
A year ago Ealing Voluntary Services they have helped me regain confidence as I have done much voluntary work I worked for
ALTZIEMERS CONCERN
which was very rewarding to know I was giving help in the community lately Every Monday I do work for
BARNARDOS
which again is very rewarding and especially as those I work with do not look at my disability they treat me as a
HUMAN BEING
and I actually look forward to going there.
The main reason I wrote this is to let folk know it doen't matter what disability you have as long as you can do the job
GO AHEAD
Like me you should get pleasure out of the work especially knowing those around you treat you like a human being not a labelled object.
Also as I said before at the end of the day you should as I do feel rewarded knowing you are doing something to help the communnity!

Has anyone else heard the loud bangs (more like explosions) going on over Acton/Ealing area last night (friday) and tonight (Sat). They're way too loud to be fireworks???
It's been a few years since i've lived in the Ealing area. I lived in a few places that are said to be the worst in the country. I have to say that i have been living in Hull for a few years and love it up here. The pace of life and stress is better. I'm also wondering what the hell happened to Gurnell leisure centre. I had worked there in the late 90's and went back there a few years ago and it was a complete dive. How are kids supposed to get fit and have fun during the holidays. I think ealing has gone to pot over the years and something should be done. It used to be a beautiful place...
I am fed up with the the poor quality of driving in Southall much of which is due to all the illegal immigrants in the area. They drive around with no regard for other road users and have no concept of the Highway Code. What, if anything, is being done about this nuisance?

I was suprised by councillor Brian Reeves' defence of councillor and MP Virendra Sharma in this week's Leader.
According to Mr Reeves, it doesn't matter that Sharma doesn't attend council meetings because with Virendra, we can local concerns to Westminster and residents have more of a chance to get their views heard.
This would all be well and good, except that Mr Sharma isn't exactly active at Westminster either.
He last spoke in parliament in November 2007 and since then, not a peep has been heard from him, so much for expressing residents' views! He's never once voted against that Labour party in parliament either, so it seems to be the views of the Labour party that he's expressing, not the views of residents.
For more detail on Sharma's performance as an MP, visit www.theyworkforyou.com.

Just wondered if anyone has any news on what has
happened to Ealing Bathstore? We had our bathroom
delivered by them last week and were trying to get a
refund for a damaged bath. We called the Bathstore
customer services yesterday as we were getting no
response from the Ealing shop where we purchased it
from and they told us that the Bathstore Ealing had mysteriously
closed. Last night we went to have a look and it is
true - there are signs in the window telling customers
to call the Bathstore customer services - they owe us
£245 - do you know what happened here? We can't
believe it as my husband was only in the shop on
Sunday and now it's ceased trading!

Democracy not available in Ealing especially with parking, apparently its a foregone conclusion whilst notices have gone up and a 21 day period to lodge an objection, contractors have already begun to mark out the road, despite the proposal being rejected twice by the residents. I understand after communicating with my Councilor Mr. Vlod Barchuk that when Balwyn Gardens was consulted 8 residents voted for the proposal but 9 voted against the proposal...
Therefore by the majority Baldwyn Gardens have rejected the proposal and I see no need for further consultation, or road marking preparations. Apparently this result does not fit in with Ealings parking plans and the even so narrow majority margin is ignored.

well done anon for pointing out the dual standards of the ealing tories. Richard Barnes is one of the worst offenders of taking the pee out of the system. He's ready to point out everyone else but ignores the fact that he is getting 2 allowances for being both a councillor and a GLA rep. He's a media queen, loves being on the TV on his work with the GLA, meanwhile the people of Harefield where he was elected to represent get nothing done for them, especially considering the other Harefield councillor is referred to as the 'invisable' man.Nobody in Hillingdon never sees either of them.

how dare jason stacey complain about MP Sharma, what about the GLA rep for ealing/hillingdon, a certain richard Barnes,he is a councillor in hillingdon, rarely attends meetings there, does none of his constituency work, parks his car at the civic centre in Uxbridge every day then travels to the GLA office and still takes the £10 grand per year councillors allowances....but I doubt if Jason stacey will complain about richard barnes because..guess what..they are both tories...dual standards I call that Mr Stacey...so SHUT UP

Re: School Places Put Pressure on Greenfield Sites
I liveon Ranelagh Road overlooking the third-world slum that is named the Ascot Allotments and I am gobsmacked by the decision to build on one of Ealing's four major sports fields when there is clearly so much derelict land (Ascott Allotments) to be had. I have to suffer the tradesmean gardeners of the Borough (all with their own plots on Ascot from which they run their businesses) driving up at all hours of the day and nighht to dump large quantities of wood-chipped weeds and diseased trees from their work at the allotment entrances rather than paying at the Council tips...
Please, Councillor Sumner (in charge of environment, I believe) could you do something about this illegaldumping and the smell, etc.--I am sure if you saw the Ascott Allotments you would build the new schools there, rather tha on a playing field--I voted Tory; but the allotments keep getting worse...

Maternity Services at Ealing Hospital: I am currently attending antental appointments at Ealing Hospital and must say that the care I have received has been first class. It must be difficult for the staff when an average of 75% of the attending patients do not speak English as their first language and the staff are having to repeat themselves time and time again. Also, a polite notice to any partners or friends who are attending clinics with the Mums to be, please give up your seat to any expectant Mothers! Don't think you fool us by pretending to read your book or paper!!!
I have recently had a surveyor round to my property to look at the mould I have throughout my flat. I was basically informed that it was my problem, and that I should keep windows open all year round, but only as I have 3 radiators in my flat heating is a major problem, especially as over christmas the entire block had no heating, also I have 2 children and having mould is a nightmare. I am having to falk out now for paint and anti-mould cleaner in order to sort the problem out.
I think Ealing council does not doe enough for anybody, there excuse is not having enough money. They need to sort there priorites out.
your article about the Caretakers having to take a 50%cut in wages. What about the caretkers who are not residential and receive about £6000 a year less then those residential caretakers. I think this is very unfair and only right that the Reisdential caretakers pay thetr own rent,Council Tax,Phone bills this way it will save the Council Residente over £500,000,00 A year.Non residential caretakers do the same ammount of work for less money it is about time this Service was reviewed and made more competeive as we are one of the highest costing Caretakers Service and not very good Value for money

Re: The Retail Giants Disappearing from Ealing.
This is a good thing. It encourages local business and reduces the stresses on Ealing's crumbling infrastructure. The fact that these shops are closing is because they are NOT NEEDED! It is a fairly simple equation: no trade is due to no demand! Why all the philosophizing about shops leaving? What is more interesting is why the Ealing Council Unitary Development Plan precludes these big stores from opening up in outlying pasts of the Borough where there is demand? Maggie.
- Ealing Council jump into the deep end -
What kind of idiot allows a consultation on a swimming pool to people in the likes of hanwell and ealing, (who most likely use gurnell swimming pool anyway)and yet fails to give the people of Northolt their say on something thats on their own turf?
I condemn the northolt councillors from both the Labour and Conservative partys that have failed to ensure that the residents they represent have not had their say.
The people of Northolt demand an explanation Mr Stacey ....
Did your Christmas tree wilt? I bought one from the temporary shop on the North East side of Ealing Common a few days before Christmas. It cost me £80 and was some form of Norwegian spruce or fir 'guaranteed not to needle drop.' The needles didn't drop, just all the branches wilted after a week and it looked very sick. I know I am not alone as the heap of trees at the recycling drop on the Common all look the same. I can't remember the name of the shop though. Anyone else?
I moved from Ealing over a year ago but came back for my annual day out shopping in the West End with my son.
We went by underground as we have always done but what a terrible shock to the system.
The journey from Northfields to Piccadilly Circus was a nightmare. Standing all the way and squashed in like sardines (no! hang on, I think sardines are better packed into their tins than we were in the carriage of the train). This experience surely is against our Human Rights!!!!!! (Nevertheless, I still enjoyed being back in London and had a brilliant day!)
To my dear friend chris (nightshift) not only was u a true friend you was kind warm and funny. i knew chris from the age of 6

I am very disappointed to see the deterioration in the service provided by First Great Western from West Ealing since the new timetable on 9th December has been introduced.
I realize it is a small station and clearly unimportant to First Great Western.
The service not only has never been improved with for example more frequent and cleaner trains, the introduction of Oyster pay as you go or service on Sunday, but it keeps on getting worse when it comes to the timing of those pitiful 4 trains an hour.
There is now up to 25 minutes in between trains ... and 5 minutes in between the other 2.
Effectively we are now getting an half hourly service. Is this a move to reduce the service further and lead to two train an hour service?
Why can't spacing be improved?
How can one be encouraged to use public transport when the service is so poor. It is not possible to rely on a service with such a poor frequency.
